Community Heroes Program
Congrats to Community Hero Doug Knese, who won a furnace from Finken Water Treatment, Plumbing, Heating and Cooling! Doug was nominated by Linda Allen, his coworker at Quiet Oaks Hospice House. Being the hero that he is, he turned around and donated it to Quiet Oaks! Read Linda's nomination letter here:
The respect and kindness that Doug brings to each resident’s experience is an amazing and inspiring work to witness…..a true Community Hero.
End-of-life care is a unique and special calling. Doug Knese works tirelessly at it, going above and beyond. His genuine love for his work is evident at a very intimate level as he cares for our residents and their families during an incredibly fragile time. Doug makes a point to be present for each resident, assisting them in wrapping up their work here on earth. He often talks about what an honor it is to do his work and he does it with such grace and humility. Given the nature of hospice care, sometimes these tender resident relationships last only a few hours, sometimes they last months. They are always everlasting to Doug. He began his career in the printing business then discovered his true passion of serving others when asked to help a friend care for her ailing husband. This service lit a fire and he trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then committed his life to helping those entering into hospice. Doug has been a part of the Quiet Oaks family since September of 2013 and his ability to exemplify compassion, care and comfort in all he does impacts the lives of each resident and their family. He serves as our Director of Client and Family Services and also cares for the Residential facility and grounds. He treats this House like his home, assisting with all aspects and providing hospitality as well as care to those we serve. We would love to honor Doug in this tangible way to show our appreciation for his work, dedication and all that he does for Quiet Oaks and we wish to nominate him as a Bryant Community Hero.
